CODA: Synthetic Nature
Saturday, August 17 @ 8pm
Performance Works (1218 Cartwright Street)
Tickets: $20 General, $15 Artists, Students, Seniors
CODA is an art party, it’s a performance event, it’s a technological spectacle. We pair electroacoustic musicians with live coders, working in a variety of technologies, to create an evening of stunning visuals and cutting-edge music and soundscapes. CODA: Synthetic Nature will dive into the paradox between technology and nature and confront the limits of biophilia.
CODA: Synthetic Nature presents LIVE
– Virtual Reality Sculpture (Edward Madojemu)
– Cut Up Soundscapes and Abstract Rhythms (Ross Birdwise)
– Close Encounters with Synthetic Psychology (Brady Ciel Marks)
– Dirty Electronics and Lush Video (EmmaTomic & The Memory Palace)
Fractal trees, biodegradable plastic, artificial intelligence, mediated experience: these are the paradoxes we encounter daily.
How do reconcile our place in this nonsense?
At the very root of art, is the artifice and artificial.
But you don’t like art do you?
To escape, you go for a walk, get away from it all.
But what if you see a sunset and are re-invigorated, and you want remember your newfound place in the universe with a pocket-sized sunset to take home. Now you are an art lover!
CODA is brought to you by nine-time producers of FUSE at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Boca del Lupo. It is curated by Brady Ciel Marks, with Technology Direction provided by Carey Dodge.
CODA is a presentation in partnership with the Vancouver Meta Music Society and is supported by Canadian Heritage, Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts Council, BC Gaming, the City of Vancouver, and CMHC Granville Island.
