Residencies (2013 – 2019)

Boca del Lupo's Space Residency Program provided free space and mentorship support for the creation and development of new artistic work from emerging and established artists. Applicants from a variety of artistic disciplines [theatre, dance, music, performance art, visual art] were encouraged to apply as long as there is a performance component to the proposed work. The Space Residency Program has now evolved into Boca del Lupo's SLaM Program.

Work explored, but not limited to, Micro Performance, which is an emerging global trend proliferating in many forms, from theatre and dance to new media, live art and interactive technology. Micro Performance prizes depth of experience above all, asking the audience, which is rarely more than 20 or 30 at a time, to immerse themselves in a world of the artist’s creation. Space residencies often represent the first step in being programmed into Boca del Lupo’s Micro Performance Series, for example The Chop’s Through The Gaze Of A Navel, began in a residency, then was programmed as part of MPS and has since toured to Crow’s Theatre in Toronto, Magnetic North Theatre Festival and High Performance Rodeo.

The Space Residency Program provided successful applicants with a week or two of free space on Granville Island, limited support from our technical and production staff, and feedback opportunities from Boca del Lupo’s Artistic Director Sherry J. Yoon.
